Here Comes the Flood

April 1, 2010

The Pawtuxet River rages through a waterfall near Main St. in Coventry, RI.  The factory building to the left is battered and damaged.  On the other side of the bridge I’m standing on, houses and businesses are flooded and the roads are closed.

I recently scanned another roll of negatives from last year and found this photograph.  I like the way it shows a sense of space and dimension.  Even though I think it’s totally different from what I saw in the viewfinder.  When using the Holga, I usually shoot the same scene with my digital.  I didn’t with this one.

Here’s another Holga shot from Beavertail.

Another one from the fateful day.  This is the very next frame from Impressionist Landscape.  The knee hasn’t improved much and I’m still out of work.  I’m using the time to work on an upcoming exhibit.  Details to follow….

Impressionist Landscape

August 2, 2009

Another one from my recent trip to Chafee Nature Preserve at Rome Pt. The reflection of the trees and sunlight in the water give almost an Impressionist view of the landscape.   Almost makes the trip worth the knee injury I suffered.   Other than a slight levels adjustment in Photoshop, this is straight out of camera.

Taken with a Canon 40D at f/8 1/5th sec.

Last One (I Promise!)

April 16, 2009

I took this photograph on the same trip as this one.  I wanted to have basically the same shot to compare my digital with the Holga and the Polaroid.  The film was damaged, so my Holga shot of this didn’t come out.  Maybe next time!

Taken with a Canon 40D.

More Ice

February 24, 2009

This is another shot from my day at Stepping Stone Falls.  I didn’t realize I was actually out on the ice until I fell through.  Fortunately, there was a stone underneath and the water wasn’t higher than the rubber part of my boot!

Taken with a Canon 40D shot at 1/6 sec. at f/25.

Ice at the Falls

February 21, 2009

I was on furlough from work a couple of weeks ago.  I took the time to go out and shoot.  One of the days, I went to Stepping Stone Falls in West Greenwich, RI.  I loaded a pack of film in my SX-70 and packed up my digital and off into the woods I went.  On the bridge, I saw this icicle and had to capture it.

Taken with a Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1 Model 2 using 600 film.

New Work

February 8, 2009

I’ve been looking for a topic to teach for an evening in the spring and I was thinking of night photography.  Of course I choose one of the coldest nights of the year to experiment.  I only managed to shoot five photos of the Newport Pell Bridge before I couldn’t feel my fingertips and had to seek the warmth of the car.

Taken with a Canon 40D, 30secs. at f/8.
