2nd and Main

October 16, 2011

I was driving around recently and saw this abandoned gas station.  When I walked around the other side of the building, I made this photograph.   I had read an interview in PDN magazine with Stephen Shore and Gregory Crewdson a few days before and saw the parallels between this scene and Shore’s “Beverly Boulevard and La Brea Avenue” photograph.

Isolette

This is my newest film camera- a 1950′s Agfa Isolette folder.  I’m looking forward to using this.

Overexposed

February 6, 2011

Over the past year, I’ve been experimenting with different light.  This is the full illumination of a magicube through the Fresnel lens on the Big Shot camera.  I wasn’t expecting it to overexpose like this, but I like the result.

Taken with a Polaroid Big Shot camera using Fuji FP100B film and a GE Magicube.

Reflections of Winter

January 28, 2011

It’s been tough photographing outside with all the snow we’ve had in the Northeast.  This is from one of the last snowstorms shooting from the deck.  I thought the reflections of light off the windows cast an interesting shadow.

Taken with a Canon 40D.

It’s Been Awhile

January 2, 2011

Haven’t posted much over the past year, but I’m still taking photos.  This is a shot from July.  I was looking at the water and the flames and tried to capture them.

Cartier-Bresson at MoMA

May 28, 2010

I was fortunate enough to spend today at the Museum of Modern Art to see the exhibit Henri Cartier-Bresson,  The Modern Century.  I was very impressed with the size and range of the exhibition.  The photographs were amazing, most of which I had never seen before.  It was interesting to compare some of the photographs on the wall with their appearance in a magazine layout.  The exhibit runs through June 28th and it is well worth the time.

Here Comes the Flood

April 1, 2010

The Pawtuxet River rages through a waterfall near Main St. in Coventry, RI.  The factory building to the left is battered and damaged.  On the other side of the bridge I’m standing on, houses and businesses are flooded and the roads are closed.

Taken with a Canon 40D.

Holga

February 27, 2010

I recently scanned another roll of negatives from last year and found this photograph.  I like the way it shows a sense of space and dimension.  Even though I think it’s totally different from what I saw in the viewfinder.  When using the Holga, I usually shoot the same scene with my digital.  I didn’t with this one.

Taken with a Holga 120N using Kodak BW400CN film.

Beavertail

Here’s another Holga shot from Beavertail.
